Ownership, Control and Corporate Governance: Evidence and Implications
Abstract
This workshop provides an in-depth review of key theories, empirical findings and state-of-the-art methods in corporate governance research pertaining to ownership (Grosman et al., 2016). We examine emerging trends and understudied dimensions of ownership, and focus on the institutional contexts of the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe and state capitalist countries where government ownership plays a pervasive role in all aspects of the economy (Cuervo-Cazurra et al., 2023; Grosman et al., 2023; Wright et al., 2021). The workshop also touches upon data sources, from open-access to proprietary, highlighting their advantages and limitations. Finally, we address key methodological challenges associated with ownership and review commonly used empirical strategies.
