Dynamics of Bank Competition, Loan Loss Provision and Regulations / Identity and Governance Dynamics

Abstract

Dynamics of Bank Competition, Loan Loss Provision and Regulations This research examines the relationship between bank competition, loan loss provisioning (LLP), and regulatory frameworks. It aims to model the privately optimal levels of LLP and analyze their divergence from regulatory standards. The study also aims to evaluates how competition influences provisioning behaviors, the predictive accuracy of LLP, and their alignment with benchmark expectations. By investigating the role of competition in mitigating or amplifying financial stability risks, this research seeks to provide insights for enhancing LLP policies and fostering resilience in the banking sector. Identity and Governance Dynamics This study investigates the effect of governance actions on collective identity formation and perceptions of state-community relations. Utilizing survey data from Hong Kong, the research examines shifts in identity alignment across political groups, focusing on the divergence between national identity and city identity. Fixed-effect regression models are applied to isolate group-level variations and explore the mechanisms driving these changes. Preliminary results reveal a decline in national identity and an increase in city identity, especially among moderates, who exhibit heightened sensitivity to key societal events. These findings provide early evidence of the role of moderates in shaping collective identity and demonstrate the multifaceted impacts of governance practices on identity alignment.
