Title : Toward Optimal Management of Drinking Water: An Analysis of Economic, Institutional, and Spatial Factors
File : Download
Abstract : Recent drought episodes highlight the urgent need for a more sustainable management of drinking water. Reducing leaks and minimizing waste have become critical priorities for policymakers. This paper aims to identify the key variables that influence water losses and the effective management of this resource. The analysis seeks to uncover the economic, institutional, and geographical determinants of drinking water governance. Spatial correlations are incorporated to account for potential neighborhood effects between public water supply services. The influence of neighborhood externalities on the quality of drinking water networks is tested using spatial econometric models.
