Title : Platform in an ecosystem: a case study in the transition from data to tourism booking
File : Download
Abstract : My PhD project is a product of the partnership between Accor and the Paris Dauphine-PSL University, which aims to explore the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the hospitality industry. With my colleague, Lucas Eustache, we are starting a research project on the effect of the open data on the tourism sector in France. Following on from academic work demonstrating that the information available on Wikipedia has an impact on tourism demand (“Wikipedia Matters, 2021, Hinosaar et al.”, a study carried out on the scale of Spanish municipalities), we are seeking to understand what mechanisms link data sharing to an effective increase in tourist numbers? More specifically, we seek to understand how is data processed so that it is available on open data platforms? by which actors is it used (companies, platforms, tourists)? how does it ultimately influence decisions and visitor flows? By the time of the conference, we should have been able to better define the contours of ecosystems for sharing public data for tourism purposes (thanks to interviews with various stakeholders in the ecosystem), and to gain an insight into the value-creation mechanisms at work there, and to start identifying the resources (data, contacts) that can be mobilized to deepen our analysis.
