Title : The Emergence and Persistence of Institutions

The lecture will illustrate how institutions, social norms, and cultural values emerge over time and how they interact with economic outcomes. We will focus on two different topics:

  • (1) the interactions among religious norms, investment in human capital, and economic performance, and
  • (2) the comparative analysis of marriage markets and marriage institutions across past and contemporary societies.
