A key argument in favour of the development of new technologies, such as blockchain, is the reduction of the cost of trust by means of a radical, decentralised approach to organising transactions. But innovative forms of organising economic activity face the same governance problems as the old forms: (1) how to prevent fraud and (2) how to avoid capture by interest groups. This workshop will be dedicated to shedding some light on the governance implications of technologically-enabled financial innovations, with a particular focus on the blockchain technology.
